Types of Membership

Upon your confirmation in the employment of the Bank you can sign up as to become a member of SBEU as an ordinary member.

Ordinary Branch Membership

Ordinary Branch Membership of SBEU is opened to all employees who have attained the age of 16 years and who are employed in any capacity other than managerial or confidential positions in Banks operating in Singapore*.

General Branch Membership

Bank employees employed in the Bank who are unrepresented by unions in Singapore in any capacity can apply to be general branch members of SBEU.

Collective Bargaining

The main aim of SBEU is to protect workers. Specifically, we represent workers in collective bargaining as well as in other areas like appeals against wrongful dismissals, negotiations for retrenchment benefits and advice on employment contracts, Trade Unions can represent both rank-and-file and executive workers.

We provide Assistance in ways that count...

• Union Representation for Ordinary Members.
• Employment Advice for General Branch Members.
• Ordinary members with at least 6 months' membership, they can now apply for a training subsidy of up to $400 each (one claim per member only to subsidise part of the course fee not funded by N-ETF) for successfully completed any of the N-ETF approved courses. "Terms & Conditions apply."
• Discount on Training Courses: NTUC Skills Development Department offers union members discounts ranging from 50% to 80% for approved skills upgrading courses and subsidised course fees under the NTUC Education & Training Fund.
• Training Grants and Skills Redevelopment programmes.
• Free Insurance Coverage: NTUC GIFT is a free group insurance coverage for members that pays up to $5,500 for death or permanent & total disability (PTD) due to natural causes (24 hours) or accidents during working hours; up to $30, 000 for death or PTD due to accidents which occur outside working hours. The coverage is also extended to member's spouse that pays up to $500 for death or PTD due to all causes.

Criteria: Members must be 65 years old or below. New members must have at least 6 months of continuous union membership & be actively and physically at work at the point when they are eligible for coverage.

In addition, there is ONE exclusive chalet units for SBEU members at special rate.

Orchid Country Club and Aranda Country Club Facilities

Union members enjoy special concession on OCC & ACC individual social membership. OCC. Union members can play golf through union's corporate golf membership in OCC, subjected to adherence to Membership Department's rules & regulations. Members must have valid golf handicap or OCC proficiency certificates.

Yearly, SBEU gives out scholarships to Union members' children who have excel in their academic results as well as Bursaries to those families facing financial difficulties.

The rate of rebate is determined at the Co-operative's Annual General Meeting and rebates are paid annually based on purchases made during the last financial year, up to a maximum of $6,000 per annum.
